Cairo is preparing tomorrow, Sunday, to host the meeting of the Arab Islamic Ministerial Committee concerned with following up on the developments in Gaza, amidst regional and international diplomatic momentum to contain the ongoing escalation. The foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, Turkey, and Indonesia will participate in the meeting, along with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Bahraini Foreign Minister, and the Emirati Minister of State.
The meeting is expected to discuss ways to achieve a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, secure humanitarian aid, and rebuild the sector, alongside exploring mechanisms to enhance Arab-European diplomatic coordination in the face of Israeli escalation. The political file will be strongly present, particularly regarding the future of the peace process and the European role in pressuring Israel to adhere to international legitimacy decisions.
Preparation for the meeting indicates Arab pressures on the European side to adopt a clearer stance towards Israel, with calls to lift the blockade on Gaza and ensure the unhindered flow of aid. In contrast, there are indications that the European Union is seeking a delicate balance between supporting the Arab position and maintaining its relations with Israel.
The outcomes of the meeting may shape the course of diplomatic action in the coming phase, amid increasing international pressures to contain the escalation, alongside parallel American efforts to formulate a new vision for resolving the conflict.
