Munich – Arab Canada News
The CEO of Bayern Munich, Jan Christian Dreesen, announced that the club is considering legal action against the Canadian Football Association regarding the injury of their Canadian star Alfonso Davies, who suffered a torn ligament during international duty.
Davies' injury occurred during Canada's match against the United States in the CONCACAF Nations League, prompting anger from the Bavarian club officials, who felt that the player did not receive adequate medical care before and after the match.
Dreesen stated in an interview with the German newspaper Bild:
“We demand that the Canadian Federation conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of what happened, and we explicitly reserve our full right to take legal action.”
Allegations of medical negligence
Dreesen criticized the Canadian national team's handling of the player's injury, saying:
“Sending a player with a broken knee on a 12-hour international flight without a proper medical examination is, in our opinion, gross negligence and a clear violation of the duty of care.”
He added:
“Davies' participation, who was already suffering from muscular problems, in a match with little sporting significance is incomprehensible. Canada had already qualified for the 2026 World Cup as the host nation, and it was unacceptable to take a risk with a player of Davies' caliber.”
A painful sporting loss
Dreesen described Davies' absence as “a heavy blow to the club,” despite the ability to replace him numerically, noting that his impact extends to the technical balance of the team at a critical point in the season.
He also mentioned that the club is suffering from the injury of defender Dayot Upamecano, who sustained a knee ligament tear while representing France against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League.
Criticism of the international break
Dreesen concluded his statements by saying:
“Once again, the international break in March shows its dangers to clubs, especially those competing for titles, as is the case with Bayern Munich.”
