Toronto – Arab Canada News

Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed his support for a Toronto Blue Jays fan after he was removed from a stadium for wearing a hat that read “Canada is not for sale,” in an incident that sparked widespread controversy on social media.

In a tweet posted on his official account, Ford stated that he had a phone call with the unidentified fan, adding:

“I told him: never take off that hat. Canada is not for sale, and you have the right to say that.”

The incident raised controversy over freedom of expression

The incident occurred during a Toronto Blue Jays game at the Rogers Centre, where witnesses reported that the fan was removed from the stands after refusing to take off the hat bearing the political slogan. No official comment has been made by the stadium management or the team at the time of this news release.

Ford: Defending freedom of expression is a fundamental right

Ford described the incident as “unacceptable,” emphasizing that citizens have the right to peacefully express their opinions, including wearing symbols and slogans that reflect their views. He added:

“Whether you agree with the message or not, no one should be prevented from expressing their opinion in a free country like Canada.”

Broad public reaction

Ford's stance received support from wide segments across social media, while others argued that sports should remain free from political slogans. As the debate intensified, some called for an official investigation to determine whether the decision to remove the fan violated any legal or constitutional regulations.
