Ottawa – Arab Canada News

The new Canadian Prime Minister announced in a decisive statement that his government will not cooperate with Russia on any projects or arrangements concerning the Arctic region, emphasizing that “Russian aggressive behavior leaves no room for any partnership in this sensitive area.”

The Prime Minister said at a press conference held today in Ottawa:

“Canada is committed to defending its sovereignty and interests in the Arctic, and there will be no bilateral relationship with Russia on this issue as long as its expansionist policies and threats to international security continue.”

A hardline stance reflecting a shift in foreign policy

This stance represents a significant shift in Canadian policy toward Moscow and comes in the context of rising tensions between the West and Russia over security and geopolitical issues, most notably the war in Ukraine and increasing Russian military activities in the polar regions.

Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed that Canada will continue to work with its NATO allies and the Scandinavian countries to ensure stability in the north, enhancing Canadian presence in the Arctic through investments in defense, infrastructure, and scientific research.
