Vancouver – Arab Canada News

The Conservative Party of Canada announced on Tuesday that a third candidate from its ranks will not continue in the federal elections, following the revelation of controversial content via social media dating back to before his joining the campaign, marking the third withdrawal within the party in just two days.

The campaign confirmed that the candidate, who was running in a riding in British Columbia, decided to withdraw voluntarily, adding that the party “is making an effort to apply clear and strict standards in selecting its representatives,” emphasizing that the party “will not tolerate any content or behavior that contradicts Canadian values.”

Increased pressure on the Polievre campaign

This development represents another blow to the campaign of the Conservative Party led by Pierre Polievre, which is trying to maintain organizational discipline amid rising criticisms regarding the process of selecting candidates and the mechanisms for vetting their backgrounds.

This announcement came just days after the exclusion of two other candidates, one due to shocking remarks about the death penalty for former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and the other over old posts deemed “offensive and inappropriate.”

Political reactions

A number of observers and opponents have called for a broader investigation within the party regarding the nomination processes, while Polievre's team downplayed the incident, asserting that the corrective actions affirm “the rigor and discipline” within the Conservatives.
