Toronto – Arab Canada News
A freezing rain warning is still in effect in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) this Sunday morning, despite expectations of gradual improvement in weather conditions by the afternoon, according to Environment Canada.
The area experienced freezing rain and ice accumulation during the night and early morning, making travel difficult and creating slippery layers on roads and sidewalks, prompting authorities to urge residents to exercise caution while moving about.
Traffic warnings and some service suspensions
The local police and transportation companies have issued warnings to drivers, especially in the York, Durham, and Peel suburbs, urging them to avoid unnecessary driving, use winter tires, and pay attention to malfunctioning traffic signals.
There have also been reports of limited delays in bus and train services due to weather conditions, with no major incidents reported up to the time of publication.
Improvement expected throughout the day
Environment Canada predicts that temperatures will begin to gradually rise as the day progresses, leading to melting ice and a reduced risk of slipping, with conditions expected to become partly cloudy with light rain in some areas by the afternoon.
