Ottawa – Arab Canada News

The local authorities in Ottawa issued new warnings on Sunday morning as severe winter weather conditions continue, expecting additional freezing rain amounts between 5 and 10 mm throughout the day, increasing the risk of power outages and ice formation on roads and power lines.

The Canadian Environmental Agency stated that the weather conditions will remain unstable until this evening, with opportunities for layers of ice to accumulate on surfaces, which may lead to fallen trees or power outages in some neighborhoods, especially in the western areas of the capital.

Power companies on alert

Hydro Ottawa reported that it has raised its readiness level in anticipation of any outages, and has prepared field teams to respond to emergency reports, urging residents to charge their devices and provide emergency lamps and essential supplies in case outages last for hours.

Police warn against unnecessary driving

In this context, the Ottawa Police emphasized the need to avoid unnecessary travel, stressing that many roads may become slippery and dangerous due to accumulated ice, and advised drivers to exercise caution and drive at reduced speeds while using winter tires.

Gradual improvement on the horizon

Despite the harsh current conditions, the weather agency forecasted a gradual improvement starting this evening, with precipitation turning into light rain and a slight rise in temperatures at the beginning of the week.
