U.S. President Donald Trump stated today, Wednesday, that imposing the new package of tariffs on foreign imports represents "one of the most important days in American history," considering it an "economic independence declaration" for the United States.
Trump said in a speech from the White House:
"Today is a historic day, it is our economic independence declaration. We will no longer allow America to be exploited by what he referred to as 'unfair partners.'
These statements come as the comprehensive tariffs approved by Trump go into effect, a move that has sparked widespread reactions from Canada and other countries that consider it a direct threat to global trade stability.
