Washington – Arab Canada News
President Donald Trump warned Iran again today, Friday, about its nuclear program, indicating that “something very bad could happen” if Tehran does not engage in negotiations with Washington, in a new escalation that threatens to increase tensions in the region.
In statements made from the White House, Trump told reporters:
“As you know, I recently sent a message to the Iranian authorities, clearly informing them that they must make a decision, either we talk and negotiate, or something very bad will happen.”
He added:
“I am not saying this as a threat or from a position of weakness, but I strongly prefer that we reach a solution through dialogue. However, if an agreement is not reached, the consequences will be severe.”
A direct message to Khamenei… and a response from Tehran
Trump announced on March 7 via his platform “Truth Social” that he sent a message to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, proposing direct talks regarding the Iranian nuclear issue.
Khamenei responded firmly, asserting that his country “will not engage in any dialogue with Washington,” considering that the United States only seeks its own interests and cannot be trusted in its intentions.
Official Iranian stance through Omani mediation
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran has provided an official response to Trump's message through Omani mediators, which included two documents:
• The first outlines Iran's perspective on the current global situation,
• The second is a detailed analysis and commentary on the content of Trump's message.
Diplomatic escalation at a sensitive stage
These developments come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, and Washington's insistence on tightening restrictions on the Iranian nuclear program, while Tehran reaffirms its legitimate right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Observers believe that this verbal escalation from both sides complicates the chances of returning to the negotiating table and increases the likelihood of political confrontation or even military conflict if diplomatic efforts fail.
